LAS VEGAS, April 2, 2025 (TECH INFO SCENE) — Digital imaging company, Blackmagic Design, has announced the launch of the Blackmagic PYXIS 12K, a new digital film camera featuring a full-frame 12K RGBW sensor. The camera will be available globally in July through authorized resellers at a price of $4,995.
The Blackmagic PYXIS 12K shares the same sensor as the URSA Cine 12K LF, offering 16 stops of dynamic range and support for resolutions up to 12288 x 8040. The camera is available in three lens mount configurations: L-Mount, PL, and Locking EF. Designed with a precision CNC machined aerospace aluminum body, the camera also includes dual CFexpress card slots, a 4-inch HDR touchscreen, and compatibility with Blackmagic Cloud for real-time global media sync.
Other technical specifications include support for 12-bit Blackmagic RAW recording, high-speed frame rates up to 112 fps at 4K, and a built-in streaming engine compatible with RTMP and SRT protocols. Users can upload proxy files in real time using 10G Ethernet or via mobile data tethered through a USB-C connection.
“Since the introduction of the Blackmagic PYXIS 6K, we’ve been working hard to make our amazing RGBW sensor from the URSA Cine available to even more customers. We have redesigned the electronics and processing to be able to handle the massive sensor and we think customers are going to love shooting incredible large format images in 4K, 8K and now 12K. We are really excited to offer this sensor in the flexible PYXIS design that has been so popular with our customers,” said Grant Petty, CEO of Blackmagic Design.
The camera supports a wide range of accessories, including optional Blackmagic URSA Cine EVF and the Blackmagic PYXIS Monitor. It also provides standard professional I/O features, including a 12G-SDI output, mini XLR with phantom power, and hardware-based streaming capabilities.
