HOMER CITY, Pa., April 18, 2025 (TECH INFO SCENE) — Energy infrastructure company Homer City Redevelopment has announced the appointment of Corey Hessen as Chief Executive Officer. Hessen succeeds William A. Wexler, who will transition to the role of Chairman of the Board of the company’s parent organization.
According to the company, Hessen will lead the redevelopment of the former Homer City coal-fired power plant into a 3,200-acre natural gas-powered data center campus. The project is designed to support growing demand for artificial intelligence (AI) and high-performance computing (HPC) infrastructure.
Hessen brings more than 25 years of energy sector experience, including roles in power generation and asset development. Most recently, he served as CEO and Partner at Black Diamond Energy Partners and has held leadership positions at TC Energy, Constellation Energy Group, Exelon Corporation, and Xcel Energy.
“The Homer City Energy Campus is going to be a game changer for energy generation in Pennsylvania, the entire Indiana County community and America’s digital future. I am thrilled to join the HCR team at such a pivotal moment, and I look forward to working closely with our best-in-class partners and local and state leaders to ensure Homer City’s transformation happens as quickly and seamlessly as possible,” said Corey Hessen, CEO, Homer City Redevelopment.
Andrew Shannahan, Partner at Knighthead Capital Management and a board member of HCR’s parent company, stated: “Corey brings decades of experience leading transformational energy projects from inception to power generation that will be vital to the redevelopment of the Homer City Energy Campus. He has not only overseen the development of billions of dollars of new power generation assets but also brings crucial first-hand experience managing the assembly of the GE Vernova turbines that will power the new Homer City facility.”
The new energy campus, announced on April 2, 2025, will include up to 4.5 gigawatts of power generation capacity and is expected to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by up to 65% per megawatt hour compared to the original coal plant. The project includes long-lead power components and plans to serve both hyperscale data centers and local grid customers.
The company also stated that the redevelopment will create over 10,000 direct on-site construction-related jobs during a five-year buildout and approximately 1,000 direct and indirect permanent roles in operations, energy infrastructure, and technology. The initial capital investment is projected to exceed $10 billion.
